A conversation that explores how music has given voice to resistance over the centuries, whether political, religious, social, or economic. Music is a concise, effective, and universally understood way to convey the complexity of human existence. Music is easily passed down and internalized.

The redoubtable associate conductor and keyboardist Ian Watson leads “Handel’s Messiah for Our Time” on GBH 2 on December 20th at 7 pm in an hourlong broadcast featuring the H+H Chorus and period instrument H+H Orchestra, in Part One of Messiah plus the “Hallelujah” Chorus. Soloists include soprano Joélle Harvey, countertenor Reginald Mobley, tenor Aaron Sheehan, and baritone Sumner Thompson.

Looking to expand its repertoire to include more composers of color and to reach a broader audience across Greater Boston, the Handel and Haydn Society has named its first-ever programming consultant. Reginald Mobley, director of H+H’s “Every Voice” program and a classically-trained countertenor, will take on the role immediately.

Incomparable countertenor Reginald Mobley has teamed up with Agave Baroque for American Originals, their third recording project featuring the music of underrepresented composers.

Tenor Brian Giebler’s debut album, “A Lad’s Love”, has been nominated for a Grammy award for Best Classical Solo Vocal Album. Released with Bridge Records, the album features an array of English songs from the early 20th century, with Countertenor Reginald Mobley singing Britten’s “Canticle II” as son to the father played by Brian.
