Reginald Mobley makes his Paris solo recital debut

EARLIER THIS MONTH, REGINALD MOBLEY MADE HIS PARIS SOLO RECITAL DEBUT AT THE THÉÂTRE GRÉVIN

Nicknamed the ‘Madame Tussauds’ of Paris, Musée Grévin is a wax sculpture museum founded around fifty years later by Arthur Meyer and named after its artistic director, Alfred Grévin. However, this museum is not only interesting for its content, but the architecture itself is based upon baroque designs and even includes a ‘hall of mirrors’, otherwise known as a ‘catoptric cistula’.

The rich, ornate design of this building was therefore an ideal backdrop for Reginald Mobley’s debut solo recital in Paris. Having already reached international acclaim as a Baroque countertenor, Reginald was eagerly awaited in Paris and presented a varied programme of Handel, Purcell, and Sancho. The last composer is perhaps less widely known than the first two; this intentional juxtaposition is of Reginald’s own design, with the aim to uncover and spread the music of underrepresented and marginalised black composers. Accompanied by Violain Cochard on the harpsichord and Christine Plubeau on the viol, Reginald’s recital was warmly received.
